Justin Bieber is a global icon who has sold millions of albums, broken records and been featured in popular movies and television shows. But he’s not just a pop singer—he wants to be a part of every genre of music that exists, from EDM to hip hop and R&B.
Bieber, who is from Stratford, Ontario, started his career at age 12, when his mother uploaded videos of him singing on YouTube. One of them caught the attention of manager Scooter Braun, who signed him shortly afterward. He became the youngest solo male artist to have seven songs from his debut album chart in the top 10.
Despite a rocky start, he managed to keep the momentum going, and in 2010, his hit single “Baby” made him a household name around the world. The album My World 2.0 followed, and it reached the number one spot in the US, Canada and Australia. Bieber also nailed a few hits as a guest on productions fronted by DJ Snake, Skrillex and Major Lazer.
In 2012, he began touring more extensively, and his popularity increased even further. He also released a Christmas album with tracks such as “Mistletoe” and a duet with Mariah Carey. But it was his behavior that really tarnished his image that year. He urinated in a bucket at the Anne Frank Museum, and when he visited another museum in Amsterdam that paid tribute to the Holocaust victim, he was photographed holding up a photo of President Clinton, calling her a f—ing slut.
By the end of 2013, Bieber had become a controversial figure all over again. He was arrested in Miami Beach for DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license, and he was also accused of throwing eggs at a neighbor’s house. A subsequent police search of his home found marijuana and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his room.
The following year, he had an on-and-off relationship with Selena Gomez and later dated model Hailey Baldwin. He and Baldwin tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2018 and celebrated their marriage with a larger wedding in 2019.
Aside from his music, Bieber has used his fame to help good causes. He is a spokesperson for the Pencils of Promise charity, and has appeared in public service announcements for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. He has also helped to raise awareness about the bullying of LGBT youth. In addition, he has used his wealth to invest in several startup technology companies, including Stamped, Tinychat and Sojo Studios. He has also launched his own line of clothing called Drew House.
