A young Justin Bieber is a star on YouTube, where fans flock to see him sing and dance. But the Canadian teen didn’t become a pop star overnight. In fact, he has worked hard to maintain his image in the public eye.
He was born on March 1, 1994, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. He is of French-Canadian, Irish, German, and English descent. He is the son of Pattie Mallette and Jeremy Bieber. His mother encouraged him to participate in local singing competitions as a way of developing his talent. She later began to post videos of him on YouTube, which quickly gained a following among online users. The clips also caught the attention of music industry entrepreneur Scooter Braun, who invited the 13-year-old Bieber to record demos and audition for Usher.
In 2012, he released his first studio album, Believe, which featured an R&B sound that appealed to his growing fan base. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and went platinum.
Later that year, he released the 3D film concert movie Never Say Never. It was a major success, earning over $73 million in ticket sales. The movie features guest appearances by Miley Cyrus and Kanye West, as well as Bieber’s mentor Usher.
The album Purpose was released in 2015, and became his most successful to date, topping the charts in several countries and winning a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Recording. It was also nominated for two other Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Best Pop Collaboration.
A few weeks before the release of the album, he broke up with girlfriend Selena Gomez. He later rekindled his romance with Hailey Baldwin in 2021.
During a Zoom playback of the song, he talked about how he’s working to make the world a better place. He noted that the world has been going through tough times, citing the Covid-19 pandemic, worsening climate emergency, and continued racial injustice and gender discrimination.
He then said, “There’s a lot of pain in the world right now, and I want to be someone that comforts people, that’s what I’m trying to do.”
He then spoke about his work with Pencils of Promise, an NPO that builds schools in impoverished communities around the globe. He added, “I know that my influence is very big, and I hope to keep a positive impact.” He concluded by saying, “I just want to be good.” The video for the song also featured an interview with the singer’s makeup artist Karla Welch. Welch works with Bieber to ensure he looks like himself on camera, but she has also done a few celebrity transformations. The makeup artist explained that when working with the star, she strives to give him a look that is natural and not overdone. For the interview, Welch used foundation to create a smoky eye that complimented the rest of his look. She also created a sculpted eyebrow and used a pink lip color that matched the tone of his outfit.
