Trailer Types
A trailer is simply a promotional marketing product, originally intended for a film that will be shown in the near future in a movie theatre/cinema. It has a basic unit of mechanical and artistic effort. The word “trailer” comes from the oldest form of the word, dating back to the earliest productions of motion pictures. The original form of the word trailer was a type of vignettes, showing imaginary scenes from movies long before the first talkie. “Trailer” eventually became synonymous with the term, indicating a picture, and” trailers” became shortened to trailer.
The basic design of trailers today consists of a metal body with a framework that allows it to be drawn or towed along a trail by a semi-trailer truck. The most common types of trailers are a semi-trailer and a full-trailer. Both utilize a hitch attached to the truck that allows the trailer to tow behind the truck. Trucks can be fitted with different styles of attachments to accommodate different purposes. The most popular types of trailers today tend to consist of an open bow front end and a hitch in the rear. Although some trailers, especially the full-trailers, do have the bow mounted to the back of the semi-trailer on a rigid rack, this type of attachment is quite rare.
Another basic design of trailers is the utility trailer. This design is ideal for transporting anything that cannot be fit inside the cab of a truck, such as furniture, kitchen supplies and boxes. Typical utility trailer designs include a box-shaped body on the front, with a single door on the rear. A small platform can be lifted from the back of the trailer to place objects on the ground. Utility trailers are generally designed for transporting lightweight items.
Bicycle trailers are designed for the transportation of bicycles. Similar to utility trailers, bicycle trailers are also commonly known as travel trailers due to the fact they are often used for towing. A bicycle trailer is fitted with a chain and a wheel. A wheel may not be attached to the trailer depending on the design. Bicycles can range from a small bicycle to a full-sized bike, making the number of possible configurations vast.
Perhaps the most famous trailer known to man is the full trailer. A full trailer has both a front and a rear section. In addition, it usually includes side cabs for the easiest access to the trunk area. Although a full trailer may not be as functional as a side-by-side or tandem combination style, a full trailer is still efficient means of hauling most any object that can fit into the truck bed.
Other commonly used trailers are the tandem and the semi-trailer truck. Both of these styles can be fitted with a tow vehicle for transport of a personal automobile. In many cases, drivers will opt to utilize a semi-trailer instead of a tow vehicle since a semi-trailer truck has a bed much smaller than that of a tow vehicle. Finally, there are travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers. Travel trailers are designed to be pulled by a motorized vehicle such as a truck. A fifth wheel trailer, on the other hand, is designed to be pulled behind a tractor.
