The Success of a Movie

A movie, also commonly known as a movie trailer, short film, video short or pre-recorded video, is an artistic work of visual entertainment used to simulate events that convey stories, ideas, emotions, physical beauty, imagery, or mood through the utilisation of moving pictures. Although some have claimed the movies are only a medium to send messages to the audience, recent movies like The Social Network and Captain America: The Winter Soldier further explore the ever-changing nature of film itself. However, some still debate on whether movies actually teach or entertain. They say that movies are basically just noisy advertisements and have no underlying meaning. This article seeks to determine if the two are indeed different.

For decades, Hollywood churns out hundreds of movies every year with the sole objective of telling stories to its audience. Most movies provide some kind of plot and develop the storyline depending on the goal of the filmmakers. Generally, action movies often tell stories of heroism and triumph while character films depict everyday life and family issues. Drama movies address social problems and offer insights on societal conflicts while fantasy movies are meant for entertainment. Based on the overall theme of the movie, most movie studios produce at least one movie per year to satisfy the ever-growing demand for new plots and characters.

In comparison, it’s easier to understand how character films develop from a simple story. These movies deal with human struggles such as good guy/bad guy, good intentions, evil intentions, right and wrong, etc. To tell stories about these basic elements, movie studios combine action, drama, comedy, and special effects. They also rely on complex plot structure and complex storyboards to tell engaging stories. Often, it takes years before a character movie becomes popular and sees the light of the day, but once it does, it is impossible for the movie to be produced without the help of a highly experienced director and a talented team of special effects experts.

When it comes to the more popular genre, action films remain the biggest earning contributors to Hollywood’s box office receipts. Since the dawn of computer technology, movies have increasingly relied on visual effects to tell thrilling stories. Special effects now form an integral part of making a movie. Today, computer technology has enabled movie studios to make use of visual effects in unprecedented ways. The result is that computer graphics have become an integral part of creating any movie. In fact, the overwhelming majority of action movies, especially war and action sequences, have been filmed using advanced computer technologies.

Of course, no movie can be truly great if its story lacks interesting characters. Movies that fail to engage its viewers are deemed uninteresting and this leads to low movie attendance and revenue. Since the audience will enjoy the movie if it involves interesting characters, movie studios put a lot of effort and creative effort in developing strong characters within the movies. Movie directors try to create strong characters so that the movie becomes emotionally gripping. Usually, people do not like watching films that do not relate to them or do not have strong characters.

Another reason why movies are successful is because they are produced in large numbers. This means that the number of viewers is large enough to make movies profitable. The success of a movie is also determined by how popular it is with moviegoers. Viewers do not necessarily go to the movie theater to watch a movie because they want to see it when it is released on DVD. If the movie is good, the movie industry may even sell out the theaters. As a result, the profitability of a movie is assured.
