Film Genres of the Century – Thriller and Action

A movie, also known as a video, short film, live-action film or multimedia movie, is an artistic work of visual art designed to simulate real-life experiences, stories, perceptions, emotions, beauty, or mood through the use of visually moving pictures. Movies are often made for theatrical, entertainment, or marketing purposes. In the 21st century, movies continue to be popular primarily because they provide an escape from the stress and obligations of daily life. It has been said that “watching a movie is like having a meeting with your best friend.”

The term “mocktail” refers to the combined form of comedy and horror in earlier days of cinema. This type of comedy relies heavily on macabre foreshadowing, and derives from the French word mort meaning death. These early days of cinema were characterized by slapstick and cheapness, as most filmmakers had limited budgets. Movie plots were loosely based on real-life events that transpired within the studios or in theaters. Early horror films involved ghosts, ghouls, monsters and the likes. A typical early film genre was comedy.

Film genres have developed over time with the rise and fall of various movie producing companies, and different box office successes and failures. Following are some of the major movie genres in North America today: Comedy, Romance, Fantasy, Action/Adventure, Family, Horror, Drama, Western, Film Noir, TV Series, Home Box Office, TV miniseries and Feature films. Based on which, the following are the top grossing films at the worldwide box office: The Chronicles of Narnia, Star Wars, Gladiator, Kung Fu, Indiana Jones, Fantastic Four, Toy Story, The Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Harry Potter, Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

Movies of the 1970s are hailed as some of the greatest films ever made, especially by the critics and audiences. However, these films were not exactly box office hits. The reason why was because filmmakers did not use any special effects or special talents. They used conventional film techniques with lots of humor. Some films were even considered commercial flops. But if the movies had been successful, they would have been highly profitable, which explains the reason why many filmmakers tried to cash in on the craze and create a big name for themselves in this genre.

Following are two of the biggest grossing movies of all time – Walt Disney and Warner Brother. Both of these films had superb special effects, brilliant songs and an awesome story line. However, these films served as mere epics, and there were not many Tollywood productions to rival them at the time. Today, both of these films are part of the pantheon of classic cinema, and both of them have a huge fan following.

The thriller film genre was also known as the war action genre and was most popular among the American adult film audiences. The only thing that distinguishes the thriller from the war action is its somewhat slower pace. Thrillers are usually very fast paced affairs, whereas the war action films tend to be long and tedious affairs. The reason that thrillers are so much in demand is that the audience always remains intrigued after watching a new thriller.
